Scholarships to support professional learning for Pre-service Teachers.

Working in Catholic schools provides a welcoming environment for staff and students.

To support new teachers coming into the profession and working in the Catholic sector, the Victorian Catholic Education Authority (VCEA) is offering Pre-service Teachers (PSTs) an opportunity to participate in an online professional learning program exploring key aspects of the Catholic Tradition.

The Program is designed to provide a foundation for understanding the mission, values and educational traditions of Catholic education, supporting PSTs to fast track their knowledge.

VCEA is partnering with Broken Bay Institute – The Australian Institute of Theological Education (BBI-TAITE) to deliver the Program which has been developed by system leaders.

This Program is fully funded by VCEA.

In addition, VCEA will provide a $700 scholarship to PSTs upon their successful completion of the program in 2026. 

There are limited places in this program.

Professional Learning Program

Six online modules | 25.5 hours total | Flexible delivery

The Program consists of six modules delivered asynchronously.

The Modules are:

  1. Catholic Social Teaching (4.25 hours)
  2. Ethical Foundations: Human Dignity (4.25 hours)
  3. Biblical Literacy (4.25 hours)
  4. Introducing Gospel Values / Christology (4.25 hours)
  5. Sacramentality and the Sacraments (4.25 hours)
  6. The Great Christian Prayers (4.25 hours)

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of the program PSTs should have:

  • foundational understanding of the mission, values and education traditions that shape Catholic education
  • knowledge and confidence to apply Catholic perspectives within a Catholic school setting

Who can apply?

To be eligible for the Program a PST must:

  • be a full-time student, enrolled in an accredited secondary ITE program recognised by VIT
  • be in the final year of their ITE program
  • be a domestic student. Please refer to the Program Guidelines for full details of eligibility

How to apply

  • Participants are invited to apply for this fully funded program by completing the Student Application Form
  • VCEA will assess the application, and approved candidates will be provided a link to the enrolment portal. PSTs will enrol directly with BBI_TAITE.
